Historical Studies is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to the study of Iranian history, with particular emphasis on Iranian cultural history. The journal publishes original research that advances historical understanding of Iran’s cultural, intellectual, social, political, religious, and institutional developments across different periods.
The journal welcomes innovative, evidence-based, and analytically rigorous research that contributes to the study and interpretation of Iran’s past. Its scope includes, but is not limited to, cultural and intellectual history; social and political history; religious and sectarian communities; customs, traditions, and everyday life; intellectual and cultural movements; political institutions and practices of governance; the history of science, education, humanities, and cultural institutions; historiography and historical thought; and Iran’s historical and cultural interactions with other societies and regions.
The journal also welcomes interdisciplinary, comparative, and transnational research when it makes a substantive contribution to the understanding of Iranian history and culture. Particular consideration is given to studies that introduce new evidence, interpretations, questions, or methodological approaches and offer significant contributions beyond descriptive accounts.
Historical Studies primarily serves scholars and researchers in Iranian history and related fields in the humanities and social sciences, as well as advanced students and other readers with a scholarly interest in the history and culture of Iran.
