Abstract

For the first time in the conference of young archaeologists in 2018. The new found relief of the horseman was introduced. Despite the importance of this new relief, except some scattered and vague comments, the finders of this work have not provided a suitable analysis. They have only attributed it to one of the local kings of Pars - which king - during the Seleucid and Parthian periods.

In the following article, we are trying to search for the identity of the horseman by descriptive-analytical method and comparative analysis. Our hypothesis is based on the fact that this relief belongs to Mithra. Since Haji Abad's surroundings have long been a hunting ground and a cemetery, it can be considered to be related to the beliefs of the people of Istakhr with this ancient Aryan god, which happened to be a part of his self-duty related to hunting and death. This work was considered in such an area. Also, our two suggested time frames for two possibilities, one in the period of the third group of local kings of Pars (around 100 BC to 210 AD) and the other is related to the end of the Sassanid period and the beginning of the Islamic period, i.e. between 550-700 AD.
