Abstract

There is a difference of opinion regarding the origin and historical background of the ethnic groups due to the lack of historical sources and the oral transmission of historical events for several generations. The lack of historical sources from ancient Iran and the oral transmission of historical events of the Baloch until recent centuries has caused several assumptions to be made about the historical background of the Baloch and especially the early origin of this people. For example, linguists introduced Gilan or the shores of the Caspian Sea as the primary origin of the Balochs, and researchers who focus on the poems and stories of the Balochs believe that the Balochs have a Semitic and Arabic origin and background. However, comprehensive research has not been done with emphasis on historical sources about the origin and historical background of Baloch people. By carefully analyzing the historical sources, it is concluded that the history of the Baloch in the historical sources goes back to the first centuries of Islam in the eastern region of Kerman and the northern parts of present-day Balochistan. Evidences and proofs show that in the centuries before that, the residence and shelter of the Balochs was in this area, which the ancient Greeks called Gedrosia. The purpose of this research is to identify the origin and historical background of the Baloch people, which is written in a historical way by describing and analyzing data collected from library sources.
